Amy's Experience

Have you ever wondered how people get those beautiful smiles?

We thought we would give you an insight into the smile makeover from start to finish. Amy recently came to see us after a tennis accident and here she talks about how it affected both her looks and her confidence.

Amy Before

‘I’ve always been unhappy with my teeth, from the shape to the colour. Things came to a head recently when I was playing tennis and badly chipped my front tooth whilst serving. I was so self conscious that I would avoid smiling at all costs, and the chip just brought to my attention how unhappy I had always been with my teeth. It stopped me from dating and being in a social job, it hampered me in my career; I could not bear talking to people because I felt they were staring at my dreadful teeth. I went to see Dr Mervyn Druian from the London Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry and veneers were the only option with whitening from Dr Wyman Chan of the Smile Studio. Obviously my parents were anxious about my low self esteem and they agreed (very kindly) to buy me my new teeth for Christmas!’

Appointment 1: Cosmetic Consultation

Amy visited us for a free cosmetic consultation with Dr Mervyn Druian. This involved a short appointment where Mervyn assessed her teeth and discussed all her options, the procedures and the costs. Amy chose to go ahead with cosmetic veneer treatment.

Appointment 2: Planning appointment

To get the best result we require a planning appointment. Photos, measurements and impressions were taken of Amy’s teeth. These were then sent to a top laboratory in New York, U.S. where they made a ‘wax up’ of the proposed veneers. Two weeks later, Amy’s laboratory work arrived back to us with a model of her veneers i.e. the ‘wax up’. To ensure her gums were in tip top shape, three one hour visits were required with our hygienist Nazilla before cosmetic treatment was started.

Appointment 3: Veneer preparation

Amy was really excited at this appointment. At the end of it she had a new smile with the whole procedure taking only 2 ½ hours. The teeth are minimally smoothed where needed and temporary veneers placed. These temporary veneers are modeled on the ‘wax up’ and are therefore near matches to the finished smile. This also gave Amy the opportunity to voice any changes or concerns that she may have had. The temporary veneers are plastic and will stay on for 10 days while we wait for your porcelain veneers to arrive.

Appointment 4: The Big Day!

This is what you’ve been waiting for. Amy’s temporary veneers were removed and the cosmetic veneers bonded to her teeth, Amy’s new and beautiful smile was ready to show off to the world. After the initial numbness wears off the bite can sometimes feel ‘different’ or ‘high’, we also like to see you a few days later to make any adjustments or final contouring.

Appointment 5 (optional): Pampering

This is an optional appointment where you can have a little pampering from us. A mini makeover from our very own make up artist, enjoyed with a glass of champagne. We take photos of you looking your best and make up a little portfolio of your ‘before’ and ‘after’ smiles for you to keep.

Amy: ‘This treatment has changed my life. I can’t stop smiling and I’ve just met the man of my dreams too!’
