The Practice

Dr Mervyn Druian
B.D.S (RAND)
D.G.D.P RCS
With over 30 years of experience in dentistry, Mervyn Druian is a leader, lecturer and innovator in cosmetic and preventive dentistry. His expertise has even led him to become one of the judges for the dentistry awards, some of which include dental practice of the year, best smile makeover, best product innovation and dentist of the year.
Mervyn Druian was the first UK dentist to complete the postgraduate program in Dental Cosmetics and Aesthetics at New York University, taught by the world-renowned dentist Dr Larry Rosenthal and his elite team of instructors. Dr Rosenthal, known as the Manhattan cosmetic dentist to the stars, is one of the foremost cosmetic dentists in the world. This intense continuing education program offers top cosmetic dentists an opportunity to study and learn from the profession's elite.
"To liken this program to the movie Top Gun would be the best analogy, only the best and brightest are accepted and only the elite excel," says senior clinical instructor and lecturer Dr Ralph Reilly. Mervyn Druian's training involved 50 hours of lectures, discussion and start to finish treatment of an advanced cosmetic patient case over a two-month period of time. Areas covered included advanced smile design and re-contouring techniques, completion of an anterior aesthetic case and minimum invasive dentistry.
Mervyn was also the first dentist to introduce the power whitening light to the UK and continues to advise and introduce new developments and technology. This field of excellence is reflected at The London Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry, which is incorporated in Mervyn Druian and Ken Spektor's dental practice.
At present, Mervyn Druian is Council Chairman of the Met Branch of the BDA and is past chairman of the London Chapter of Alpha Omega, now serving as their International Director. Mervyn was recently asked to be the Secretary for the British Dental Bleaching Society, who are currently lobbying for changes in the UK laws concerning tooth bleaching.
Mervyn is an established lecturer and in the past year he has hosted many overseas lectures for both the BDA and Alpha Omega. He has been the Hon. Secretary of the British Dental Editors Forum for the past 12 years and has just been invited onto the editorial advisory board of FMC Publications.
Dr Ken Spektor
B.D.S (Rand), D.G. D. P.RCS
Following university, Ken Spektor joined his father’s successful Cape Town dental practice, where he set up the Dental Clinic, which provided free treatment for the underprivileged in the Townships. It was his first of many humanitarian projects to come and is still a success after 35 years. It’s a fantastic example of Ken’s dedication to the field of dentistry.
In 1989 Ken and Mervyn decided to form a partnership in Hampstead, London. By selling their three other branches, they created a dream practice, investing in state-of-the-art equipment and IT systems. Together, Ken and Mervyn co-founded the London Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry, the London Tooth Whitening Centre and the London Breath Centre.
Ken is a highly skilled dentist and has completed many courses to keep abreast in his field, regularly attending courses in Endodontics and Periodontics.
One of Ken’s true passions is working in Third World Countries. He has worked and taught in isolated rural areas, such as Guatemala and Honduras for the past eight years. On these trips, Ken ventures deep into the mountains and undertakes dental work on the indigenous tribes of each destination. For three weeks of every year, Ken and his wife spend time volunteering and doing charity dental work, which is entirely funded by Mervyn, Ken and Druian & Spektor Dental Practice.
After many years of dentistry, Ken still loves communicating, helping patients and using his profession to help those in Third World countries.
